RVRA podcast - Education

July 9, 2026 - In this podcast Roger Pallant, President of the Retirement Village Residents Association of NSW, speaks with Diane Hart, Chair of the RVRA Education Centre, about the Centre’s work supporting retirement village residents across New South Wales.

Diane explains how the Education Centre provides practical, plain English information to help residents better understand retirement village living, including Residents Committees, village finances, contracts, rights and responsibilities, communication with operators, and common areas of confusion.

The discussion also highlights the Centre’s use of written guides, videos, webinars, flipbooks, captioned materials and village visits to make information more accessible for residents with different needs and learning preferences.

Roger and Diane also discuss the significance of the new five-year grant from NSW Fair Trading. This funding will allow the RVRA Education Centre to expand its work, with a strong focus on resident education, accessible resources, training, communication within villages, meeting procedures, dispute resolution, complaints processes, elder abuse awareness, and practical support for residents and Residents Committees. The grant provides an important opportunity to strengthen the RVRA’s role in helping residents feel informed, supported and better able to participate in village life.
