COVID-19 is having a major impact on the lives of all Australians. Those who live in retirement villages are not only experiencing greater restrictions due to their, age but are prevented from participating in the way they normally would in village life.

The RVRA is very aware of the particular problems facing residents and has undertaken a number of initiatives over the last few months.
The RVRA wrote to The Hon Kevin Andrews MP, Minister for Better Regulation and Innovation on 9 April 2020 setting out the concerns and difficulties of residents living with the consequences of COVID-19

The RVRA published an update bulletin COVID-19 response on 16 April 2020. The update covers:

  • Public Health and Safety in Retirement Villages;
  • Budget and Auditor Voting in Villages; and
  • Payroll Tax.

In response to COVID-19, NSW Fair Trading has published “some frequently asked questions” relating to Retirement Villages and residential land lease communities.

One question of particular interest is:

“What options does a resident committee or residents have to avoid in-person meetings?"
