Following a video conference meeting of the ARVRA on Monday 23 July 2018, the Association has resolved that it is unable to support the Property Council of Australia’s draft Code of Conduct which is currently open to public comment until the end of August 2018.
Retirement village resident associations from all states and the ACT, with the exception of Queensland (who were an apology) participated in the conference and the following motion was carried:
The Australian Retirement Village Residents’ Association does not support the proposed Retirement Living Code of Conduct released for public comment on 20 June 2018.
The ARQRV (the Queensland RV residents association) subsequently confirmed it’s support for the resolution.
The combined residents’ associations had many and varied reasons for their rejection of the draft code and did not consider that it would operate in the best interests of residents. It was acknowledged that differences in the legislation regulating retirement villages in each state and the ACT made it difficult for there to be a single theme of rejection.
The RVRA in New South Wales supports the ARVRA decision and is currently finalising it’s response to the call for comment. When this has been done and conveyed to the PCA, members will be advised via email (where members have indicated they wish to receive information via that medium), the website and in the October RVRA Newsletter.
